South Fayette wins second straight PIAA title
For the second year in a row, South Fayette captured a state championship in girls basketball. The Lady Lions defeated Archbishop Wood, 45-35, in the PIAA Class 5A final played on March 21 at the GIANT Center in Hershey. In 2025, South Fayette also beat the Vikings for the first state banner in the program’s history.
Ryan Oldaker and Juliette Leroux led the offensive attack. Both scored in double digits, finishing with 15 and 10 tallies respectively. Oldaker was 5 for 8 from the field. Leroux led in rebounding with seven boards.
Ella Vierra dominated all aspects of the game. The sophomore scored eight points, collected five boards, blocked two shots and dished up two assists.
Junior point guard Lailah Wright scored six points, cleared the glass six times and dished up two assists while picking also picking up two steals.
Kenzie and Kylie Rumberger contributed valuable minutes in their roles as substitutes off the bench.
