Anna Sergio of South Fayette recently walked away with four medals and the first-place overall trophy during the “Wild Wild West Showdown” held at the Gymsport Athletic Center on Vanadium Road in Scott Township.

In her first official USA Gymnastics event, the South Fayette freshman grabbed three gold medals and a bronze.

In the meet, hosted by the Gymsports Gems Gymnastic Team, Sergio won the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise events. She took third on the balance beam. As a result, she claimed best overall in her division.

While winning a medal in four out of four events was an outstanding accomplishment, winning the overall title came as a surprise to Sergio, particularly in her first competition.

“I thought that I would do OK except for the balance beam,” she said, “but I certainly didn’t expect to take first place overall.”
