Bethel Park resident inducted into another Hall of Fame

Jerry Conboy of Bethel Park will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 28 in Williamsport, Pa. This will be his sixth induction into a sports hall of fame.
Conboy received the 2009 Pittsburgh Sports Legend Award for his lifetime achievement as a basketball coach with 863 wins in a 50-year career.
At South Hills Catholic High School (1956-1967) he had a 203-46 record. He won four league championships, two state championships, four Coach of the Year awards and was selected to coach the first two Roundball Classics.
At Davidson College (1967-1969) as assistant to Lefty Driesell, he helped the basketball team to back-to-back NCAA Eastern Regional Finals, won the Southern Conference both years and was ranked 8th in the nation in 1968 and 3rd nationally in 1969 with a 27-3 record. At Point Park College (1969-1989) Conboy had 305 wins that included 14 consecutive NAIA District 18 playoffs, 12 championship wins, two district championships and three NAIA national tournaments.
Conboy later returned to coach three WPIAL schools to 196 wins, two section banners, and one WPIAL title.
He has been previously inducted into the Robert “Tick” Cloherty-Western Chapter, the Point Park University, the South Hills Catholic, Pittsburgh Basketball Club and the National Italian American Sports-Pittsburgh Chapter halls of fame.
