Hunter Bruce finished runner-up in the state during the PIAA golf championships played at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center in York.

The Peters Township senior carded a 71-73-144 during the tournament held Oct. 23-24 and tied Franklin Regional’s Palmer Jackson. Liam Hart from Holy Ghost Prep won the state title with a 143.

“For the most part, he struck the ball well,” Peters Township coach Dave Kuhn said. “He drove it well. His iron game was pretty sharp. We left a couple of shots out there on the putting greens. But he was in a position to win it and that’s all you can ask for.”

Bruce birdied two holes and parred 10 others. The last Peters Township golfer to finish runner-up in the state tournament was Tom Nettles. He had second-place showings in 2011 and 2012.

“Hunter (Bruce) is a great kid, an intense kid,” Kuhn said. “He has an unbelievable work ethic. He follows in a long line of great players that we’ve been fortunate to have at Peters Township. He is definitely one of the more decorated we’ve ever had.”

Jack Steve of Upper St. Clair also competed in the state championships. He finished tied for 26th position, carding a 79-81-160.
