Teams shine in Junior Roundball Classic
The East edged the North, 66-63, to capture the championship in the Junior Roundball Classic held April 3-5 at Seton LaSalle High School.
Liam Kiernan and Will Kromka each tossed in 15 points while Langston Moses finished with 11 markers to lead the winners. Liam Straub (16) and Patrick Orie (11) paced the North stars.
The East advanced to the finals by dispatching the South, 87-37. Kiernan again led with 20 tallies while J.D. Younger supplied 11 points. Connor Gitzen and Michael Lydon each scored eight points for the South.
Members of the East team also included: Anthony Carter, Patrick Scabora, Ryan Bozicevic, Andrew Denham, Tommy DePasquale, JT DePasquale, Mikey Gallagher and Devin Barren. Jim Gregg, Kevin Kelley and John McCarthey coached the team. Christian Marks served as ballboy.
The North advanced to the championship contest by defeating the West, 73-48.
While Ian Palmer led the North with 16 markers, Orie and Matthew Gregor both pumped in 11 points. Francis Bochicchio led the West with 11 tallies.
The North team, which was coached by Tim McTighe, Rob Gregor and Rich Seidl, also featured the talents of Teagan McTighe, Matthew Seidl, Thomas Molenda, Tyler Maziarz, Matthew Castelnovo, Tyler Beighley, Nolen Paul, Rian Fitzgerald and Antonio Perri.
In the consolation contest, the West topped the South, 60-47.
Anthony LaSale (11), Tyler Staub (10) and Colin Wiegand (10) finished in double digits for the West while Gitzen and Patrick Weldon led the South with 13 and 11 points.
Players for the West also included: Anthony Cipriani, Joseph Rees, Giovanni DiMichele, Stephen Greer, Ehzaire Burrell and Nick Kristian. Mark Murrman and Andy Tintori coached the group.
Playing for the South were: Nolan Randal, Anthony George, Owen Hutchison, Trey Varley, Justin Ranft, Jake Baumgart, Michael Canavan and Luke Campana. Rich Kuntz, Dave Pudup and Ian McNeill coached the South stars.
