BP figure skaters medal

Four Bethel Park students collectively earned eight medals during the 2018 High School National Figure Skating Championships held in Chicago.

Rachel Grant, a senior, earned a gold medal for Preliminary-Solo Pattern Dance while Julie Brooks, a junior scored a bronze for Pre-Juvenile Moves in the Field.

Emily O’Donnell captured the gold for High Beginner Free Skate and Pre-Preliminary Compulsory Moves. The junior also claimed silver for Teen Showcase-Interpretive.

Marissa Christenson, a sophomore, grabbed the gold in the Intermediate Showcase-Interpretive, Novice Showcase-Duet and Intermediate Showcase-Light Entertainment events.

Members of the Western Pennsylvania High School Figure Skating Team, the girls are coached by Sharon Brooks of Bethel Park.

The team is comprised of student athletes from the following high schools: Avonworth, Bethel Park, Moon, Montour, North Hills, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Pine Richland, and South Park. The 2018 High School National Finals, sanctioned by United States Figure Skating, featured 18 high school teams from around the country.
