Crookshank honored

The Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association recognized Abby Crookshank as one of its Players Of The Week for Class Quad-A. The senior libero helped Peters Township punch its ticket to the WPIAL playoffs as the Indians defeated Canon-McMillan in their final regular season match.

The Indians participate in the challenging Section 2. Among the teams featured in the division are Baldwin, Oakland Catholic and Bethel Park, all of whom are ranked in the Top 5 in Quad-A behind North Allegheny.

Peters Township embarks on playoff action Oct. 24. The Indians travel to Norwin. The match begins at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Bethel Park will host Connellsville at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. The winner advances to play Oakland Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29. Baldwin received a first-round bye.

In Class AA, Chloe Lestitian was recognized as a POW. She is a junior setter for Seton La Salle, which is ranked No. 6 in its classification.

The Rebels will face Southmoreland at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at Frazier in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA playoffs.

In other playoff action, Chartiers Valley will play Hampton at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at North Catholic in the Class AAA playoffs.

Bishop Canevin begins defense of its WPIAL title by hosting Union at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in the first round of the Class A playoffs. The Crusaders are the top seed in the tournament.

Volleyball tryout

The P3R Volleyball Club will conduct tryouts for girls in grades 5-8 on Oct. 28 and for grades 9-12 on Nov. 11 at the Cool Springs Sports Complex.

The club, based in the South Hills, develops players and teams to compete at the regional and national levels and features some of the areas top volleyball coaches.

Hockey signups

Classes for the Mt. Lebanon Hockey School begin Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 while games in the Developmental League commence Nov. 2 at the ice center. Visit www.mtlebanon.org to register.

Fee is $112 per skater for each program.

Ages 4-12 are eligible for the hockey school, which accepts all ability levels and offers learning skills of the game in a progressive, nonpressure atmosphere in small classes.

There are two age divisions: 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 in the developmental league. Equal ice time is guaranteed in this no-check league. To insure balance, sign-ups are accepted individually and players rate themselves.
