Erin Thompson headed in a cross-serve from Lily Gaston to guide Bethel Park to victory, 1-0, against Upper St. Clair and Natalie DiGiorno scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win against Canon-McMillan in girls’ soccer.

The triumphs came as no surprise to Melissa Dalbon. The BP skipper notes that the team, which improved to 4-2-1, is strong defensively and works together well as a unit.

“The girls really support and encourage one another, both on and off the field, and that goes a long way in terms of success,” she said.

Six returning starters represent the glue for the club. The group includes two all-section performers from last year: junior Sophia Galietta and senior Julia Mascaro. The other four core veterans are Thompson and DiGiorno, both seniors, as well as sophomores Teagan Mehalko and Olivia Schram.

Kelly Mulhair is the newcomer in goal. The senior is also joined in the starting line-up by sophomore Rachel Toth and freshmen Lily Gaston and Macy Mathias. All three are defenders.

Juniors Molly Hoffman, Meg Mathias, Tianna Torles, senior Maggie Toomey and freshman Meg Erfort serve as key subs for the Hawks, who have modest goals for the 2018 campaign.

“Our goal this season is to continue to improve and grow from last year, have a winning record, and make the playoffs.”
