SLS’s Shaughnessy named volleyball POTW
Alex Shaughnessy earned Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association’s Class Player of the Week in Class AA. The Seton LaSalle junior shared the distinction with Thomas Jefferson’s Alex Territ and Ambridge’s Liam Buck.
Shaughnessy led the Rebels to three-game sweeps of Peters Township, Thomas Jefferson and Steel Valley.
The outside hitter registered 35 kills, seven blocks and seven service aces. He also maintained a +.368 hitting percentage.
The Rebels started the week at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in section. They are ranked second in the WPIAL and ninth in the state by Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.
Among the other area South Hills players helping Seton LaSalle to lofty heights this season are Chris Sigg, Luke Manion, Logan Kuntz, Brandon Haas and Nate Kuntz, all from Bethel Park; Wes Hoge and Sean Weldon from Peters Township and Kyle Killen from Canonsburg.
In Class AAA, Bethel Park is ranked No. 2 behind North Allegheny.
Players of the Week in the Class AAA division were Alden Kelly from Canon-McMillan, North Allegheny’s Sava Topich and Seneca Valley’s Luke Treziack.
