South Fayette golfers earn medalist honors
Luke Lestini and Caroline McConnell earned medalist honors during the Jerry Roman Memorial Chairman’s Cup played at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
Lestini carded a 71 on the Gold Course and led the South Fayette boys (407) to a third-place finish in the team standings.
James Cavrak, Colby Geary, Alec Goldstrom and Trent D’Alesandro added to SF’s totals.
McConnell won a one-hole playoff against Ella McRoberts to take top honors in the girls division. Both McConnell and McRoberts carded 76 scores during regulation play.
The performance of McRoberts however enabled Peters Township to prevail over the Lions as well as Ligonier Valley as the Indians took top team honors with a 349 score. The Rams took second with a 399 and the Lions were third in the team standings with a 410 total.
Following McRoberts were: Allison Poon (88), Delaney Kern (89) and Morgan Byers (96). Maddie Weaver also played for the Indians.
Following McConnell were: Marissa Galosh, Giuliana Gaetano, Claire Relihan and Meghan Kuczinski.
Peters Township also won the team title in the boys division. The Indians captured the championship with a team score of 390. Hempfield grabbed runner-up honors after edging the Lions in a playoff. Both teams finished 18-hole play with 407 totals.
Ellian Ascencio led the Indians with a 74. While Andrew Poon shot a 78, Mason Takacs and Logan Shaw followed with 79s. Nick Luniewski contributed an 80 to complete PT’s scoring.
Bethel Park finished fifth overall in the boys standings. John Harmon, Parker Loera, Hunter Junazski, Johnathan Haddox, Frank Visnikar and Bobby Kennedy golfed for the Hawks.
In the girls’ division, BP finished fourth. The Lady Hawks were led by Kira Greer, Kate Wholey, Caley Richards, Lauren Mullen and Izzy Nowozeniuk.
In the junior varsity division, PT finished first with a 413 score.
Dustin Bleiweis led the way with an 81. Ryan Liebscher (82), Seth Bockman (83), Kyle McClintock (83) and Will Burkhardt (84) followed.
