Bethel Park to induct 6 into Hall of Fame

Bethel Park will induct six new members into its athletic Hall Of Fame during halftime of the Black Hawks’ Dec. 21 basketball game against Gateway. Tip-off is at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel Park High School’s gym.

The Class of 2019 includes:

• Charlotte Brackett (Class of 2008/Swimming) – A four-year letter winner on a team that won four WPIAL and section championships from 2005-2008, as well as two PIAA runner-up titles, Brackett won 10 WPIAL gold medals. She captured two individual state championships. At the University of Richmond, she collected 20 Atlantic 10 Conference gold medals and guided the Lady Spiders to three conference crowns. A 14-time Scholastic All-American, Brackett was the 2008 Almanac Athlete of the Year.

• John Schademan (Class of 2009/Football) – A three-year starting wide receiver and defensive back, Schademan helped the Hawks win their first-ever WPIAL football championship in 2008 and finish runner-up in the state. Offensively, the All-State first-team performer amassed over 1,687 receiving yards and scored 21 touchdowns. Defensively he had 117 tackles and four interceptions. Schademan played collegiately at Colgate and Slippery Rock University, where he helped the Rock win two PSAC West Division Titles. In college he amassed over 2,300 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns.

• Michael Stewart (Class of 1971/Football and Baseball) – A defensive back, wide receiver and quarterback, he scored 11 touchdowns as a senior. In baseball he played right field and led the Hawks to back-to-back section titles and to the 1970 WPIAL Title Game. Collegiately, he played football at William & Mary, where he started for three years at the strong safety position and served as captain in 1974. Stewart served on the Bethel Park coaching staff for two years, including as an assistant for the 1980 WPIAL runner-up squad.

• Jane Waldie (Class of 1970/Swimming) -A four-year letter winner, she served as captain in 1970 and was a member of the 1966 and 1967 section championship clubs. At WPIALs, she earned four gold medals. She swam for Michigan State University, where she was a five-time Big 10 Conference champion and a a member of the Big 10 winners in 1973 and 1974. Waldie set more than 10 school records. A coach at North Allegheny for more than 30 years, she was inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.

• Mark Wicks (Class of 1993/Football and Track) – A three-year football letter winner, Wicks started at tailback for two years and rushed for over 1,300 yards in his senior season. He earned four letters in track and captured two WPIAL titles in the 100 meter dashes and one district crown in the 400-meter relay. A wide receiver at Marshall University, Wicks played on teams that won two Southern Conference Titles, one national runner-up crown (1995) and one NCAA I-AA championship in 1996.

• Rebecca Zimmer (Class of 2009/Swimming) – A four-year letter winner on a team that won three consecutive WPIAL championships (2006-2008), four consecutive section titles (2006-2009) and two consecutive state runner-up trophies (2007-2008), Zimmer earned 10 WPIAL gold medals. She swam for the University of Akron and earned a silver medal at the 2012 MAC Championships as a member of the 400-meter freestyle relay unit.

The Hall of Fame will also present the Distinguished Contribution Award to Ron Evans. The 1960 Bethel Park graduate and Hall founder will be recognized for his outstanding contributions and remarkable service to the organization.

The Bethel Park Athletic Hall of Fame has been in existence since 1998.
