Anderson, Carter place nationally
Patrick Anderson of Mt. Lebanon and Emily Carter from Bethel Park placed in the Top 6 among all high school runners during the New Balance Outdoor Nationals held June 13-16, 2019, at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, N.C
Anderson finished sixth in the one-mile competition. The rising senior clocked a 4:14.64 time. Though off the winning pace set by Charleston’s Dolan Owens (4:10.52), the mark was an improvement on his time (4:20.83) posted during the prestigious Penn Relays.
Anderson was the WPIAL champion in the 1,600-meter race this spring as well as a fourth-place finisher in the metric mile during the PIAA Class AAA championships held in late May at Shippensburg University.
Anderson is the reigning PIAA Class AAA cross country champion and Pennsylvania Gatorade Athlete of the Year in that sport.
Carter competed in two events during the outdoor nationals. The rising junior finished fourth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 16:32. She took third in the two-mile event, clocking in at 10:22.
During the PIAA championships this spring, Carter captured the gold in the 3,200 race. She broke the state record with a time of 10:16.02. She added third in the 1,600. Carter was the WPIAL champion in both events.
