Roundball returns to region

By Eleanor Bailey almanac Sports Editor ebailey@thealmanac.Net 1 min read

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club announced the return of The Roundball on April 13 at Moon Area High School.

Recognized in the sports world as the original national high school all-star basketball game and founded in 1965 by Sonny Vaccaro and Pat DiCesare, the Roundball set the standard in showcasing future Division 1 and NBA players in a competitive all-star competition. It was played in Pittsburgh until 1992 and then held in Detroit, Chicago and North Carolina before being disbanded in 2007.

Some big name game alumni included Patrick Ewing, Calvin Murphy, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Paul Pierce, Dwight Howard and Chris Webber, Tom Clements, Dwight Clay, Andre McCarter and Ricky Coleman.

The feature game at 8 p.m. will match Team USA against Team Pennsylvania and continuing the tradition of supporting regional basketball. WPIAL North will play WPIAL South in a preliminary game at 6 p.m.
