Bethel Park hires new football coach
Bethel Park looked within to find its next head football coach.
Bethel Park School Board hired longtime assistant coach Brian DeLallo as head coach to replace Jeff Metheny at the meeting March 26.
Metheny went 164-104 at Bethel Park with a WPIAL title and PIAA runner-up trophy in 2008. He resigned in January to spend more time watching his son, Levi, play college football at Albany. Bethel Park went 6-4 last season and reached the WPIAL Class 5A playoffs.
A Keystone Oaks graduate, DeLallo has worked as an educator in the Bethel Park district for 17 years, the past five as dean of students. Before becoming an administrator, he worked in the classroom as an economics teacher.
DeLallo coached football at Bethel Park for 13 years divided over two stints. He also worked in between with Jim Render at Upper St. Clair and Lou Cerro at Montour.
“He’s worked with three of the top coaches in the region,” Bethel Park High School Principal Zeb Jansante said. “That makes him uniquely qualified and ready to take on that head coaching role.”
DeLallo praised the committee that lead the search for a new coach and he praised the district for devoting resources to the arts and athletics as well as academics. He said his predecessor left large shoes to fill.
“He set the bar very high. It’s an honor to have this job,” DeLallo said.
The board voted 8-0 to hire DeLallo. He will be paid a stipend of $10,564.78 in addition to his regular salary as dean of students.
