Char-Houston Tournament kicks off wrestling season

Charters-Houston will be the place to be for wrestling fans as the season’s tournament commences.

Opening round action begins at 4 p.m. Dec. 6 and concludes with championship and consolation finals at 3 p.m. Dec. 7.

Two area wrestlers look to retain their titles as Christopher Beatty from Chartiers Valley and Donovan McMillon from Peters Township are returning champions. Other returning champions are Sam Hillegas and Matt Serwatka from North Hills, Dylan Bruce of Elizabeth-Forward and Beth-Center’s Jimmy Gwyer.

Quentin Franklin from South Fayette hopes to improve upon last year’s runner-up performance.

Other retuning runners-up include Nick Schaukowitsch from Butler, Ryan Michael from EF, Kelin Laffey from Pine-Richland, NH’s Jeremy McPherson as well as Armstrong’s Paydon Terrell and Logan Harman.

Armstrong and Peters Township are the top returning teams from 2018.

In the 29-team field is Upper St. Clair as well as Albert-Gallatin, Annville-Cleona, Beaver, Bentworth, Burgettstown, Carlynton, Central Valley, Conneaut Area, Fort Cherry, Freedom, Grove City, Highlands, Hopewell, Oak Glen from West Virginia, Shaler, South Side Beaver, Washington and West Greene.
