Top 10 finishes for four local golfers in PIAA

Four local golfers had Top 10 showings at the PIAA Championships held Oct. 21-22 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, Pa.
Upper St. Clair was the only school in Pennsylvania with two golfers earning medals as Nathan Piatt and Scott Jordan each shot a two-day total of 149 to tie for 10th place.
Both opened with 4-over-par 75 scores in the first round. They each carded 74s in the second round of the two-day competition.
While Piatt graduates and will continue his career at the University of Tampa, Jordan is a junior.
A bronze medalist in the WPIAL individual championships, Jordan returns next season to try and help the Panthers win a team title. USC finished runner-up to Fox Chapel in this year’s WPIAL team tournament.
Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburg placed seventh in boys Class AAA.
The Central Catholic freshman fired a 73 and 1-under 70 to finish with a two-day total of 143, which left him nine strokes behind winner Carson Bacha of Central York.
Salvitti had the second-best finish among WPIAL entrants in the Class AAA field as Shady Side Academy’s Josh Ryan shot a 70-70-140 and placed fifth.
Ella McRoberts placed eighth in girls Class AAA. She also was the top finisher among all WPIAL golfers in the girls Class AAA competition.
The Peters Township junior opened well. She birdied the No. 2 and 18 holes. However, she bogeyed No. 15 and double-bogey No. 16 to finish the first round with a 4-over 76, preventing her from challenging for the lead.
McRoberts slipped in the second round. She shot an 82 that left her 12 shots off the lead and out of the running for a medal. The top five finishers received awards
Elizabeth Beek from Wissahickon won the title after a playoff with Sydney Yermish of Lower Merion. Both finished regulation play on the par-71 course with a 146 score after two days of competition.
USC second
