After initial rounds of playoff action, Peters Township (16-1-1) emerged as the lone local survivor in the WPIAL girls soccer tournament.
The Lady Indians blanked Butler, 5-0, and advanced to the semifinals in the WPIAL Quad-A girls’ soccer playoffs.
Sarah Heisinger led the offensive attack, registering two goals, stacking PT to a 2-0 advantage by intermission.
Hannah Stuck headed in a corner kick while Rachel Raber blasted in a free kick from 40 yards to make it 4-0. Brooke Opferman completed the scoring.
The Lady Indians will now face North Allegheny, a 3-0 winner against Penn-Trafford, on Oct. 28 for the right to return to the championship match at Highmark Stadium.
In other girls soccer playoff action, Fox Chapel (10-7-1) upended Upper St. Clair, 2-0.
Sam Dockey and Kaylee Uribe netted the goals for the ninth-seeded Foxes. Claudia DeMartino and Lucy Ream assisted the tallies.
Sammy Dunlap and Molly McNaughton combined to shut out the Panthers, who finished the season at 11-6 overall.
Defending Quad-A champion, Seneca Valley edged Canon-McMillan, 2-1.
Zoe Simpson and Mia Zec scored for the Raiders, who improved to 12-3-2.
Lexie Twaddle registered the goal for the Lady Macs with eight minutes to play. C-M finished the season at 12-7 overall.
Oakland Catholic (13-4) used goals from Hannah Henn and Aidan Brady to thwart South Fayette, 3-0. With the loss, the Lady Lions finished the year at 8-9-0 overall.
In Class A first-round play, Bishop Canevin (13-2-1) and Seton LaSalle (13-5-0) advanced with victories.
The Lady Crusaders edged McGuffey, 2-1, in overtime.
Sophomore Ainsley Smith had the golden goal while freshman Ashley Lipoid netted the equalizer with nine minutes remaining in regulation.
With the win, Canevin improved to 13-2-1 and moved on to face undefeated Freedom (19-0) in the quarterfinals. There the Crusaders lost, 6-0.
Thanks to goals from Marissa Shuckman and Paige Kuisis, the Rebels blanked Springdale, 2-0. Mikaela Small and Mo Obiri assisted.
Gina Mastella earned the shutout in the nets. She made six saves.
SLS improved to 13-5 overall and faced Greensburg Central Catholic (12-3) in quarterfinals but succumbed to the Trojans, 4-0.
