Kness ties for sixth

Mia Kness of Venetia tied for sixth place during the 84th Women’s Amateur Championships played Aug. 3-5 at Lebanon Country Club.

Knees carded a 75-79-155 during the weather-shortened event.

Katie James from Fox Chapel Golf Club fired a 5-over par 149 total to capture the championship.

Kness was one of several Valley Brook Country Club representatives to fare well in the tournament.

Ella McRoberts finished in 22, while Delaney Kern 28th and Morgan Byers followed in 31st position.

McRoberts and Kern are also members of Peters Township High School girls golf team while Byers and Kness golfed scholastically for the Indians.

Byers recently notched her first hole-in-one. She did so July 27 on the No. 11 hole at Palmetto Dunes Arthur Hills Course.

Kness enters her senior season at Seton Hall University maintaining a 75.24 career average. The Big East Freshman of the Year in 2018 won the William & Mary Intercollegiate event in 2019.

A business major, Kness was the first PIAA golf champion in Peters Township High School history. She was also its first four-time PIAA qualifier. She also was a western regional champion and a WPIAL runner-up,

In the 2016 state finals, she shot an even par 144 in the 2016 finals. The score ranks third best in PIAA history.
