Mt. Lebanon swimmer earns SEC academic honor

Trinity Ward of Mt. Lebanon earned a spot on the Southeastern Conference first-year academic honor roll. The University of Kentucky swimmer is a materials engineering major.
During the SEC championships in February, Ward posted top times of 53.77 in the 100-yard butterfly and 1:59.91 in the 200 fly. Her best collegiate long-course marks in those events — 1:02.02 and 2:24.35 — occurred during the Ohio State Fall Invitational. She also had a personal record of 57.70 in the 100-meter free in that meet.
Ward arrived on campus as a decorated PIAA and WPIAL champion and as the No. 3 prospect out of Pennsylvania.
The Mt. Lebanon Aquatic Club member recorded best times of 49.98 in the 100 free, 1:50.51 in the 200 free and 54.14 in the 100 fly. She was a four-time WPIAL gold medalist in the fly.
Additionally, Ward was a Junior National qualifier in the 50, 100, 200 free and 100 fly.
The Wildcats have high expectations for Ward.
“We’ve been fortunate to have some great swimmers from the Pittsburgh area and Trinity continues that trend,” said UK head coach Lars Jorgensen. “Perhaps she will be our best from that area.”
Ward intends to do that and more.
“Kentucky is the place where hard work in and out of the pool leads to lifelong success,” she said.
