PCN Profiles to feature McConnell-Serio

Upper St. Clair resident Suzie McConnell-Serio will be featured at 8:30 p.m. July 26 on the show PCN Profiles.
For two decades, the program has showcased Pennsylvania’s wide range of athletic talent. Each episode provides a 30-minute, one-on-one interview.
Born in Pittsburgh, McConnell-Serio helped lead Seton LaSalle to the 1984 PIAA Championship.
At Penn State, she led the Lions to four straight NCAA tournament appearances. She was named the school’s first First-Team All-American while setting NCAA Division I records for career assists (1,307), assists in a season (355) and season assist average (11.8). Many of the records she set have yet to be broken.
After competing in two Olympic Games, winning gold and bronze medals for Team USA in 1988 and 1992, she coached basketball at Oakland Catholic High School for 13 seasons. She guided the Eagles to three PIAA Championships in 1993, 2001 and 2003.
In 1998, she joined the WNBA’s Cleveland Rockers and played for three seasons. She was named head coach of the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx in 2003.
Inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008, McConnell-Serio also coached at Duquesne and the University of Pittsburgh.
