Chartiers Valley gets record-breaking win

Chartiers Valley defeated Hollidaysburg 58-38 in a PIAA Class 5A girls basketball playoff game March 11 at Greensburg-Salem.
The Colts have now won a WPIAL record 57 games in a row. North Catholic held the previous record of 56. The Trojanettes set the WPIAL mark from 1987-89.
In winning last year’s PIAA title, the Colts compiled a 30-0 record. They are 27-0 and three games away from repeating as state champions.
CV faced Thomas Jefferson (20-7) in the quarterfinals March 13. It was the fourth meeting between the section rivals.
The Golden Tigers did not make it easy for CV. They jumped ahead 7-0 and led 15-11 after one quarter. The Colts, however, used an 11-0 run to overtake Hollidaysburg 22-15. They led at halftime 30-24 and had stretched their lead to 45-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
CV’s Aislin Malcolm led three players in double figures. She fired in 19 points.
The Colts’ Megan McConnell scored 16 points and Perri Page added 12.
For Hollidaysburg (18-8), Marin Miller scored a game-high 22 points.
