Brooke Lapia ended her softball career at Washington & Jefferson College in a most unusual manner. The senior, like many Division III athletes, didn’t get to play this spring because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Nevertheless, Lapia graduated with a lifetime of memories.

On the diamond, the Oakdale resident started all 107 games in which she appeared. Lapia slugged nine homers, which is tied for fifth most in school history.

Lapia finished with a .303 batting average, .406 on-base percentage and 89 career hits. The four-year letter winner added 60 RBI, 33 runs scored and 15 doubles during her time as a President. As a junior, she earned All-PAC second team honors.

A dozen games into the 2020 spring campaign, Lapia owned a .342 batting average with 12 RBI, seven runs scored and two home runs.

Lapia majored in business administration and minored in marketing. She will attend Sherwin Williams management training program and then continue to graduate school.

While she said she has so many memories that it’s hard to choose one, Lapia had advice to share about her experience at W&J.

“College doesn’t last forever. So always have fun,” she said. “You’re not going to remember that test that you didn’t do well on, but you’ll always recall the memories you make with your friends.”

Lapis is a daughter of Gary and Cyndy Lapia is a Chartiers Valley High School graduate. She has one sister, Nicole.
