Massucci headlines All-WPIAL team

Andrew Massucci was named WPIAL Player of The Year in Class AAAA boys soccer.
The junior scored 19 goals in leading Peters Township to the WPIAL finals, a section title and 13-2-1 record. The Indians captured their division then lost 4-3 in double overtime to Seneca Valley in the WPIAL championship match.
“Andrew is a tremendous competitor and one of our hardest workers,” said PT head coach Bobby Dyer. “He’s an opportunist but he will be the first to tell you that he benefits from the hard work of the players behind him.”
Massucci also uses his soccer skills to benefit the football squad. He kicked three field goals and converted 14 extra points in helping the Indians reach the WPIAL finals for the second straight season. Peters Township also won a conference championship and finished 8-1 after falling to Pine-Richland 35-0 in the Class 5A final.
In addition to POTY honors, Massucci was also named to the All-WPIAL and all-Section 2-AAAA teams.
Dominic Sambuco joined Massucci on the All-WPIAL and all-section teams.
PT players Austin Marmol and Derek Liguori earned spots on the Section 2 Finest Fifteen roster.
Among the other players from The Almanac readership area to gain All-WPIAL acclaim included Upper St. Clair’s Ben Bacdayan and Mt. Lebanon’s Zach Nellas.
Canon-McMillan seniors Joey Fonagy and Owen Maher also made the team.
The foursome also garnered Finest Fifteen recognition.
Jack Myers from USC, Lebo’s Zac D’Alesandro, Bethel Park’s Michael Francus and Jake Harrington as well as C-M’s Kaiden Reamer netted Finest Fifteen acclaim.
Finally, Dyer merited Coach of the Year distinction in Quad-A Section 2.
Class AAA
South Fayette’s Chad Eldridge and Ethan Sanders as well as Chartiers Valley’s Riley Kutschbach were named to the All-WPIAL team.
A senior defensive midfielder, Eldridge was also honored as the Section 2 Player of the Year. The Mercer University (Georgia) recruit also netted Finest Fifteen and All-State laurels for the second year in a row.
A senior midfielder, Sanders was also a Finest Fifteen selection. He will play soccer at Penn State Behrend next fall.
Danny Gormley joined his Eldridge and Sanders on the all-section roster. He is a sophomore midfielder for the Lions.
Class A
Four Seton LaSalle players gained both All-WPIAL and all-section acclaim: Bob Bootay, Nick Cherry, Anthony Newman and T.J. Cherry.
Both senior center midfielders, T.J. Cherry scored 11 goals and collected 11 assists while Newman provided four scores and 10 assists for the Rebels, who won the Section 4 title with an 11-1 record.
A junior center back, Bootay managed three goals and an assist for the Rebels, who finished 12-3 overall after losing to Springdale in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs.
Freshman goalkeeper Nick Cherry racked up nine shutouts and maintained a .933 goals against average.
Dan Myers joined the foursome on the all-section list as an honorable mention while Nick Balzer gained co-Coach of the Year acclaim.
