Peters Township leads list of All-WPIAL girls soccer all-stars

The Peters Township girls soccer team led the list of area players earning All-WPIAL honors.
The Indians’ four selections included: Emma Sawich, CeCe Scott, Jill Marvin and Brooke Opferman.
A four-year starter, Sawich racked up 11 shutouts in 14 games this season.
The senior helped the Indians to a No. 1 ranking throughout the regular season and a WPIAL playoff appearance after clinching the Section 2-AAAA title with a 10-1-1 record.
PT’s postseason ended with a loss to eventual WPIAL champion and PIAA runner-up North Allegheny.
Sawich is a three-time all-district and four-time all-section performer.
Her play for the Indians, as well as for Beadling Soccer Club, earned Sawich a scholarship to St. Francis University in Loretto.
“Emma is a strong addition to the goalkeeper position,” said Red Flash head coach Ellie Davis. “She is a good shot stopper and ability to play with her feet that will allow us to continue to play out of the back in possession.”
Sawich, a high honors student, plans to major in physical therapy in college.
Though both juniors, Scott and Marvin also are Divison I recruits. Scott, who plays for Beadling’s 2003 Showcase team, is already committed to Michigan State. Marvin recently made a verbal commitment to Kent State University.
Opferman joined Marvin, Scott and Sawich on the all-district and all-section teams. She is a sophomore midfielder.
Irene Doleno also earned all-section acclaim for the Indians. She is a sophomore defender.
Upper St. Clair placed three players on the All-WPIAL unit including defenders senior Carson Bogan and junior Natalie Gilbert and senior forward Emily Rocco. They also gained all-section laurels for the Panthers, who finished 8-6 overall after falling to Butler in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs.
Macie Fultineer, a sophomore goalkeeper, and Evan Rankin, a junior defender, also joined Bogan, Gilbert and Rocco on the all-section team.
Mt. Lebanon’s Kendall Donati completed the list of area players on the All-WPIAL Class AAA list. The senior forward will continue her career at James Madison University.
Donati also garnered all-section acclaim along with sophomore teammates Grace Nellas, a midfielder, and Melia Peer, a forward.
Bethel Park placed four players on the All-Section 2-AAAA honors.
Seniors Teagan Mehalko and Rachel Toth led the list. A midfielder and defender respectively, the duo helped the Black Hawks to a playoff appearance where they lost to North Allegheny, 3-0.
Sophomore forward Eva Blatz and junior midfielder Lily Gaston joined Mehalko and Toth as section all-stars. They helped BP post a 6-5-2 record this season.
Canon-McMillan’s Samantha Houk netted all-section honors.
She was a senior defender for the Big Macs, who finished 3-8-1 overall.
Three local products gained All-WPIAL awards at the Class AAA level.
Amy Allen, a senior defender, and Cecelia Gagliardino, a senior midfielder, represented South Fayette, which earned a postseason berth after finishing tied for third in the division with Montour with a 6-6 record.
Morgan Montani gained all-district status. She was a senior defender for Chartiers Valley, which finished the year at 4-8-2 overall.
