LaPort, Coclango earn POTW honors

Maddie LaPort and Lucia Coccagno shared Class AAAA girls volleyball Player of the Week honors.
The Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association bestows the distinction and ranks the WPIAL teams.
LaPort is a senior libero for Upper St. Clair while Coclango is a senior setter for Bethel Park.
The pair shared the award with Canon-McMillan’s Vicky Manda, Oakland Catholic’s Ava Barkich, Shaler’s Emily Peterson and Pine Richland’s Kaili Doctor.
Bethel Park is ranked No. 4 and USC is No. 10 in WPVCA’s weekly poll. North Allegheny is the top-ranked team.
In Class AAA, South Fayette is No. 7. Beaver is No. 1.
In Class AA, Cassidy Angle from Keystone Oaks shared Player of the Week honors. She is a senior outside hitter.
Bishop Canevin remained No. 1 in Class A ahead of Fort Cherry.
The WPIAL volleyball playoffs commence following an Oct. 26 committee meeting with the championship matches set for Nov. 7 at Fox Chapel High School. The PIAA state finals are scheduled to be played Nov. 21 at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.
