National wiffle ball tournament comes to region

The National Wiffle League Association’s (NWLAT) 2020 tournament will be held Sept. 18-20 at North Strabane Park in Canonsburg.
Action kicks-off with a home run derby and welcome festivities Sept. 18.
Games begin with pool play Sept. 19.
The championship will be played at 4 p.m. Sept. 20.
American Wiffle ball Association of America from New York returns to defend its title.
The event features 16 wiffle ball leagues from nine different states. Three teams from Pennsylvania will participate, including the Waves. The Canonsburg club represents the Wiff is Life League.
This is the fourth national tournament for the Waves. They won the 2018 Cup as the 14 seed and after a 13th place finish the year prior.
In total the Waves hold a 14-9-1 record at the NWLAT. Last year they were unable to defend their title, ending the weekend in fifth place.
The Waves’ roster features: Austin Berger, Jordan Castelli, Jake Davey, Mike Graziani, Gino Joseph, Steven Keelon, Rob Licht and Nate Morris.
Davey is excited Washington County was able to host the 2020 national tournament after complications forced a last-minute change from Indianapolis as the original location.
“The best wiffle ball players are headed to Washington County, and we are excited to see them all perform,” he said.
“We are happy to give wifflers from around the country the opportunity to compete at a national level again this year. The tournament features the deepest field in tournament history and is more than likely going to be the most competitive, as well.”
The WILL Waves are scheduled to play three games Sept. 19.
They face Massachusetts teams NWBL from Beverly at 8 then the Stars from the Greater Auburn league at 10 a.m.
At 1 p.m. they challenge the Longballs from the Ridley Park league.
