Area road races on tap for September

A Tunnel To Towers 5K Run and Walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at Southpointe Town Center, located at 1900 Main Street in Canonsburg.
The race originated in 2002 with 1,500 participants in New York City and is still held there on the last Sunday of September.
The event symbolizes Stephen Siller’s final footsteps from the foot of the Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center and pays homage to the 343 New York City firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers and thousands of civilians who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Proceeds from the event support the Foundation’s programs, including those benefiting first responders and catastrophically injured service members.

Fabus 5K
The Joey Fabus Superhero Run returns to Bethel Park Sept. 12 after a one-year hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 5K event begins and ends at the high school. The race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Fees are $25 for the race and $15 for the fun run. Fees increase after Aug. 31.
The top three male and female finishers as well as top performers in nine various age groups receive awards.
Proceeds are donated to the Joey Fabus Childhood Cancer Foundation, Inc.
Fabus was 8 when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in May of 2014. He passed away from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Jan. 21, 2015.
Because Fabus had a passion for caped crusaders, particularly Captain America, runners and walkers are encouraged to dress up in their favorite superhero costume for the race.
