Peters Township eliminated in wrestling tournament

Peters Township advanced to the WPIAL team wrestling tournament by virtue of its runner-up finish to Waynesburg in the Section 4 championships.
The Indians’ appearance in the team tournament, however, was brief as they succumbed to No. 2 Seneca Valley 60-14 in the quarterfinals.
The Raiders won the first eight matches by fall before Chris Cibrone snapped the streak with a 9-4 decision at 126.
Sandwiched in between two more falls by Seneca Valley were back-to-back pins by PT’s Eliot and Noah Schratz at 138 and 145, respectively.
Seneca Valley advanced to the finals to face No. 1 Waynesburg after beating Connellsville 42-24 in the semifinals.
The Red Raiders, who won the team title in 2020, beat Thomas Jefferson 53-9 and North Allegheny 51-9 to reach the championship match.
After a dual meet with South Fayette, Peters Township now prepares for individual competition. The sub-section tournament is scheduled to be held Feb. 16-18 with the top two advancing to the sectional meet set for Feb. 19-20. The top two finishers move on the WPIAL Class AAA championships set for Feb. 27.
