USC continues winning ways while Lebo, CV fall

The Upper St. Clair boys basketball team continued its winning ways, while Chartiers Valley and Mt. Lebanon dropped their first games of the 2021 season.
USC improved to 6-0 overall with an 85-66 victory over Seneca Valley and a 73-70 win over Hempfield in Class 6A action.
Against the Raiders, Dave Pantelis exploded for 24 points. Luke Gensler scored 19 and Ethan Dahlem added 10.
Against the Spartans, Luke Banbury topped out with 26 points and Pantelis pitched in 20.
The Panthers also raised their Section 2 mark to 2-0 with a 53-45 win against Canon-McMillan.
Luke Gensler and Dahlem were top scorers with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Lamont Lyons had 12 points and Justin Franks added 11 for the Big Macs.
While the Blue Devils started the season at 2-0, their Section 2 games against Bethel Park and USC were postponed because neither opponent wears face masks during competition.
In between those cancellations, Lebo dropped a 63-50 decision to Erie McDowell and fell 59-58 to North Catholic.
The Blue Devils led the Trojans, 30-25, at halftime and 49-42 after three quarters before being outscored, 17-9, in the final eight minutes of play.
Michael Pfeuffer scored a team-high 16 points for Lebo, while Lucas Garofoli and Jake Reinke each added 14 points.
In the loss to McDowell, Pfeuffer and Reinke finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
CV ran its record to 7-0 with an 88-81 victory against North Allegheny during the MLK Showcase before being toppled by New Castle, 73-45.
Against the Tigers, CV buried 16, 3-point field goals and shot 53% from beyond the arc.
Socrates Boulis led with five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points.
Brayden Reynolds led all scorers with 25 points.
Reynolds scored 19 points and Boulis added10 to lead the offensive attack against the Hurricanes, who connected on 29 of their 55 shots from he field for a 52% conversion rate. NC cashed in on eight, 3-point field goals.
Peters Township picked up a 54-36 win over Canon-McMillan before defeating Baldwin 72-55 in Section 2 action.
Against the Big Macs, Aaron Brulee, Gavin Cote and Jacob Macosko each scored nine points.
Against the Highlanders, Brulee led with 13 tallies. Macosko and Julian Mascio both finished with 11 points.
In a non-section contest, Bethel Park succumbed to Thomas Jefferson, 47-37.
Dolan Waldo led the Hawks with 14 points.
