Peters Township native garners all-district honor
Washington & Jefferson tennis player Nate Wang of Venetia was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) 2020-21 Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team.
The Academic All-District IV list is comprised of NCAA Division III schools in Pennsylvania. A total of 15 student-athletes made the list.
Wang earned the All-District honors for a second straight year. He was a third team All-America At-Large selection by CoSIDA last year.
Wang graduated with a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average with a degree in biochemistry. A three-year team captain, he is a four-time member of the PAC Academic Honor Roll.
Wang served as the top player for the W&J men’s tennis program for his entire career. The Peters Township graduate compiled a 37-8 overall record in singles play and posted a 32-14 mark in doubles matches.
Wang was named PAC Player of the Year and received PAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors following his sophomore season. He earned All-PAC first-team laurels at No. 1 singles in 2019 and 2021 and was first team at No. 1 doubles after 2019.
Wang is a five-time PAC Player of the Week and a two-time PAC Rookie of the Week. He recently received W&J’s Walter C. Cooper Senior Athlete Award.
CoSIDA recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early August.
The at-large program includes athletes from the following sports: fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling.
