Chartiers Valley hosts camp for linemen

Chartiers Valley football coach Dan Knause has led select players from his team to their fair share of 7-on-7 passing camps, which included hosting Mt. Lebanon July 21. The camps are aimed at helping skill-position players prepare for the fall WPIAL season.
Knause also wanted his linemen to get in on the act.
CV hosted Bethel Park, Bishop Canevin, Canon-McMillan, South Fayette and Trinity for its first camp for linemen only.
“Colleges host big-man challenges. Others have done them,” Knause said. “So why not try it here?
“The idea was to give the linemen a chance,” he added, “because they are the heart and soul of the team.”
The linemen camp featured different events ranging from driving sleds, flipping tires, tug-of-war and carrying two-by-fours.
South Fayette won the competition.
“Any time you can give kids an opportunity to compete in a healthy, classy event is a good thing,” Knause said. “It’s the reasons why we six teams did it. It helps everyone involved.
Knause said he and the participating coaches were “really pleased with the turnout” and that the Colts plan to do it again next year.
South Fayette coach Joe Rossi welcomes the opportunity to challenge the Colts and defend its title. The two schools have a cooperative relationships as both Rossi and Knause are CV graduates.
“The linemen challenge is one of the fun events we do like the passing camps and trips to Ohio. We weren’t able to do a lot of our favorite things last year because of COVID,” Rossi said. “That hurt because they help build camaraderie.
“We practice a lot together with CV,” Rossi added. “I’m just glad we don’t play them because they beat us last year.”
