Bethel Park blanks Chartiers Valley

Bethel Park blanked Chartiers Valley, 9-0, at Washington & Jefferson College in the first round of the WPIAL Class 5A baseball playoffs.

Black Hawks pitcher Eric Chalus earned the shutout. He also helped his cause with a single and double.

Cody Geddes collected three hits, including a double, while David Kessler provided single and a home run. He drove in three runs for the Hawks.

Garrett Aluazen stroked two singles for the Colts, who finished 6-15 overall.

With the win, the Hawks improved to 16-3 overall and advanced to face Shaler in the quarterfinals.

The semifinals are set for May 24 and the WPIAL championships will be played June 1-2 at Wild Things Park in Washington.

In other Class 5A action, Peters Township upended South Fayette, 6-4.

Jack Natilli belted a two-run homer in the third inning for the Indians.

Mac Ciocco went 4 for 4 with a run-scoring single in the first to lead PT’s attack at the plate.

Jack Kail and Andrew Ripepi each doubled for the Indians.

Michael DiMartini and Tyler Pitzer tripled and Jake Dunay doubled for the Lions, who finished the season at 15-4 overall.

With the win, the Indians improved 9-10 overall. The No. 13 seed in the tournament faced Latrobe (12-8) in the quarterfinals.

The game was played too late to be included in this edition.
