The Peters Township baseball team’s bid for a WPIAL championship faded after a 9-1 loss to top-seeded Franklin Regional in a Class 5A semifinal game played May 24 at Latrobe.

Caden Smith hit a three-run homer for Franklin Regional in a five-run, fifth inning that sealed PT’s fate.

Louie Kegerreis also knocked in two runs and had three hits for the Panthers while Brian Perone picked up the win on the mound. Petrone struck out six and allowed three hits in six innings.

Andrew Ripepi started for the Indians and yielded to Jack Kail after three innings. Kail retired his first six batters and did not allow a run.

Jordan Suvak and Tim Quinn each had two hits for Peters Township, which will play West Allegheny for third place in District 7 and seeding in the PIAA tournament, which commences June 7.

PT reached the semifinals by defeating Latrobe 6-4 in a quarterfinal playoff game at West Mifflin.

Sam Miller earned the win on the mound. He scattered five hits and fanned five in 4 2/3 innings before yielding to Logan Pfeuffer, who picked up the save.

Miller also tagged a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning. Tucker Ferris had a home run in the third. Jack Kail tripled and scored on a base hit by Mac Ciocco to start the game.

Latrobe ended the season at 13-9 overall while the Indians evened their record to 10-10.
