Peters Township (7-4) defeated North Hills, 33-28, and earned a date with Pine-Richland (6-4) in the WPIAL 5A football playoffs.

The game is a rematch of last year’s championship contest. The Indians visited the Rams in the quarterfinals played Nov. 12.

The Indians entered the playoffs as the No. 11 seed. After losing their first three conference games, they won their final two regular-season battles and gained a playoff berth and the visit to Martorelli Stadium to tackle North Hills, which tied P-R and Penn Hills for the Northeast Conference title.

Sam Miller sparked PT’s run toward the postseason and victory over North Hills.

He threw for 843 yards in the team’s final four regular season games.

Against North Hills, Miller completed 8 passes for 270 yards. He also rushed for 58 yards and a 2-yard touchdown.

Jacob Macosko pulled in half of Miller’s passed for 170 years. He caught a 70-yard scoring strike to tie the game at 14-14 at intermission. His 52-yard reception set up the go-ahead score in the third quarter.

Ethan Kirsch rolled up 112 yards rushing for PT. His touchdown runs of 34 and 9 yards afforded PT a 28-14 advantage in the third quarter. Andrew Massucci kicked a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

PT sealed the victory with a safety when a snap sailed over the head of North Hills quarterback John Green and with an interception by Marcos Recker with 1:47 to play.
