Four pairs of local doubles tandems were eliminated before the semifinal rounds in the WPIAL Class 3A team tennis tournament held at North Allegheny.

Half of the pairs lost in the quarterfinals.

After beating Latrobe’s Maya Jain and Emily Pierce, 10-6, in the first round, Upper St Clair’s sophomore/junior combination of Evie Ellenberger and Claire Loomis dropped a 10-2 decision to Moon’s Maria Lounder and Amanda Koren.

Ellenberger and Loomis entered the tournament as the Section 4 champions. They had outlasted Bethel Park’s sophomore pairing of Katie Peterson and Lily Sierka in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, for the title.

In their WPIAL quarterfinal match, Peterson and Sierka were shut out against the top-seeded duo of Jenna Bell and Carolina Walters from Latrobe, 10-0. Peterson and Sierka had dispatched of Norwin’s Jenna Beach and Sydney Pesarsick, 10-4, in their opener.

In the first round, Mt. Lebanon’s Luisa Warnecke and Sophia Cunningham dropped an 11-10 (7-5) match to Fox Chapel’s Katie Voigt and Carissa Sheppard while Peters Township’s Adisyn Moorhead and Bella Englesberg forfeited to North Allegheny’s Emily Wincko and Abbey Swirsding.

Warnecki and Cunningham were the third-place finishers in the section tournament, having beaten Moorhead and Englesberg in the consolation match, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.
