Peters Township golfer sixth in PIAA

Allison Poon of Peters Township was the top local finisher at the PIAA golf championships held Oct. 19 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York. A senior, she carded a 5-over 77.

After bogeying her first two holes, Allison Poon of Peters Township bounced back to tie for sixth place in the PIAA Class AAA girls golf championships held May 19 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

A senior, Poon carded a 5-over 77, the same score carded by Uniontown’s Adena Rugola.

Lower Merion’s Sydney Yermish captured the title with a 4-under 68.

Mt. Lebanon’s Lindsay Powanda tied for 10th place. A senior, she fired a 78.

WPIAL champion Marissa Malosh finished tied for 14th. A South Fayette junior, she carded an 80.

South Fayette senior Caroline McConnell recorded an 81.

In the boys competition, Lebo’s Zach Dyke and SF’s James Cavrak tied for 23rd place with 76s. PT’s Kyle McClintock shot an 80 to place 23rd overall.

Nick Gross from Downington West edged Billy Pabst from North Pocono in a playoff to win the AAA crown. Both had 2-under 69s after 18 holes.

Central Catholic’s Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburg shot a 73 to finish in eighth place, while Carter Pitcairn of Upper St. Clair shot a 74 to finish in 12th place.
