Bethel Park, Peters Township earns Player of the Week honors but fall in volleyball playoffs

Peters Township’s Lyla Josefoski and Bethel Park’s Cassidy Sullivan earned Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association’s final Player of the Week laurels for the regular season.
A sophomore opposite hitter, Josefoski led the Indians to a No. 11 seed in the WPIAL Quad-A playoffs. PT opened postseason play against Penn-Trafford and lost to the Warriors, 3-0.
A freshman setter, Sullivan led the Hawks to a No. 7 ranking and a spot in the WPIAL playoffs. BP succumbed to Greater Latrobe in straight sets, 25-22, 25-9, 28-26.
The WPIAL volleyball championships are set for Nov. 6 at the UPMC Events Center on the Robert Morris University campus. Action starts with the Class A final at 1:30 p.m. and concludes with the Quad-A title tilt at 7:30 p.m.
In Class AAA, South Fayette entered the postseason seeded No. 4.
The Lions defeated Mars in their opening match, 3-0. After winning the first game, 25-23, SF won the second and third sets by 25-11 scores.
SF faced Armstrong, a 3-1 winner against Trinity, in a quarterfinal match played Oct. 30.
The winner advanced to the semifinals set for 6 p.m. Nov. 2 at a location to be determined.
One of SF’s top players is Bella Bowers. A junior outside hitter, she was named one of the final WPVCA Class AAA Players of the Week.
Previous Lions to garner the distinction included: Rachel Czaplicki, Annika Opposite, Haley Nicholson and Kaylin Goldstrohm.
In AA, Seton LaSalle was ranked No. 5.
Erin LaQuatra earned Class A POTW honors. A senior libero, she has Bishop Canevin seeded first in the Class A playoffs. The Crusaders swept Cornell, 3-0, in their opening match.
