Peters Township, South Fayette open soccer playoffs with wins

Peters Township (10-3-3) and South Fayette (12-7) were first-round winners in the WPIAL girls soccer playoffs.
In Class 4A, the Indians blanked Pine-Richland, 4-0, while the Lions shutout Gateway, 3-0, in Class 3A action.
Jillian Marvin scored twice while Irene Doleno and Casey Breier provided single goals for PT, which advanced to the quarterfinals to play third-seeded Latrobe. The winner advanced to the semifinals set for Nov. 1 at a site to be determined.
Bliss Plummer, Breier and Doleno each recorded an assist, and Emma Burrows recorded the shutout.
The Indians went on to beat Latrobe, 2-0, in the quarterfinals.
Camryn Klein and CeCe Scott each scored off assists from Brooke Opferman. Burrows again was in the nets for PT.
Julianna Rossi registered two goals and Anna Hertzler had the other for SF, which edged No. 3 Franklin Regional in a shootout in the quarterfinals and advanced to face No. 2 Plum (18-1-1) in the semifinals set for Nov. 2.
Kaylee Hendricks recorded the shutout for South Fayette and excelled in a nine-round shootout against the Panthers.
Mt. Lebanon (9-7-2) and Bethel Park (10-6-1) were eliminated in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
The Blue Devils lost to Butler, 1-0, when Samantha Miller found the back of the net with 11 minutes to play. Mackenna Yarcas made seven saves for the Golden Tornado.
After 80 minutes of scoreless regulation action and two overtimes, the Hawks lost in a shootout to Fox Chapel, 1-0. In the seventh round of penalty kicks, Lauren Rabbitt converted the game-winner while Molly McNaugthon made two saves for Fox Chapel.
The Class 4A championship contest will be played at 8 p.m. Nov. 4 at Highmark Stadium while the Class 3A final is set for 1:15 p.m. Nov. 6 at Highmark Stadium.
Boys soccer
Mt. Lebanon (10-7-2) and Upper St. Clair (6-9-2) were eliminated in the first round of the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs.
Milo Larson scored twice to propel Taylor Allderdice to a 3-1 win against the Blue Devils while Evan Anderson had two tallies as North Allegheny handed the Panthers their fourth loss in fives games.
In Class 3A, South Fayette (8-8-2) ended its season with a 1-0 loss to Thomas Jefferson.
Peters Township (14-1-1) embarked on its pursuit of a Class 4A title when the Indians hosted Butler Oct. 30.
