Ellis wins Tri-State Sectional

Jimmy Ellis of Venetia finished first in the Pittsburgh Open played at the St. Clair Country Club.
During the two-day, 36-hole event held Aug. 1-2, Ellis fired an 8-under-136. The Peters Township High School graduate carded a 67 in the first round and a 69 in the final round. He had five birdies in each round of the competition.
Brett Young of Bethel Park took third in the competition while Mt. Lebanon’s Kevin Shields, a pro at The Club at Nevillewood, finished fourth.
Young carded a 5-under-139 with 11 total birdies while Shields finished with a 141.
Nathan Piatt tied for seventh place. he finished with a 144 as did Scott Jordan, Rob McClellan, Donnie Professori, Peters Micklewright and Darin Kowalski of Bethel Park.
An Upper St. Clair High School graduate, Piatt is a rising sophomore at the University of Tampa.
Other action
Parker and Tanner Johnson shot a 6-under, 65 and were bogey-free on their way to a two-stroke victory in the Gross Division during the 73rd WPGA Brother’s Tournament held July 29 at Shannopin Country Club.
In the Net Division, Bob and Bill Burkhardt ran away with the win, shooting a 6-under, 65 — 10 strokes ahead of second place.
During the 98th Parent Child event held Aug. 1 at Connoquenessing Country Club, Robert and Hunter Bruce were crowned champions. They shot a combined 1-under par, 70.
In the Parent/Child net division, Lucas and Alexis Marsh shot a net 2-under par to win by four strokes.
