Peters Township dominates TCADA golf match

Peters Township finished 1-2 during the Tri-County Athletic Director’s Association championship held at the Chippewa Golf Course in Hickory.

Led by Colton Lusk, the PT Red slipped past the PT White, 372-402.

A sophomore, Lusk fired a 2-under-68 to led the Red and earn medalist honors in the tournament.

Austin Malley finished runner-up to Lusk. He led the White, carding a 74.

Griffin Hansberry (76), Nick Wetzel (78) and Ben Miller (79) submitted the remaining scores for the PT Red. Sophomore Chris McCay played for the PT Red squad.

Jeremy Poon (77), Nick Haught (76), Seth Bockman (82), Luke Scott (88), Brendan Kern (79) and Shane Williams played for the PT White.

South Fayette took third as a team. The Lions compiled a 425 score to finish eight strokes ahead of Canon-McMilland and Trinity, which tied for fourth with a 433 totals.

Randy Fisher was the low-scorer for the Lions with an 83.

Other contributors for South Fayette were Brady Newman, Sam Bishop, Trevor D’Alessandro, Brady Fleck and Vedant Degar.

Nineteen teams participated in the annual event; seven in Class AAA and 12 in Class AA, where Carmichaels dominated, winning by 16 strokes (408). Waynesburg was runner-up with a 426 total.

Chairman’s Cup

Colton Lusk and Austin Malley tied for medalist honors during the Jerry Roman Memorial Chairman’s Cup championships held at the Cedarbrook Golf Course. Both carded 73s and led Peters Township to the team title.

The Indians finished with a 372 total while runner-up Bethel Park carded a 417. South Fayette finished fourth with a 427, one stroke behind third-place Hempfield.

PT’s Ben Miller and Nick Wetzel tied for third place overall. Both shot 74 scores. Nick Haught tied for seventh (78) to complete the scoring for the Indians.

Top performers for the Black Hawks included: Chan Yoon (81), Dom Nerone (83) and Andrew Kvak (83). Jon Haddox and Eddy Counihan added 85s.

In the girls’ competition, the Lady Indians (339) finished runner-up to Hickory (321) while South Fayette followed in fifth place (405).

PT’s Brooke Vowcheck (79) and Ellie Benson (80) finished third and fourth individually while Hickory’s Sasha Petrochko secured medalist honors with a 68.

Other top finishers for the Lady Indians included: Gabby Catalogna and Amelia Severns. Sophia Severns also competed in the event.

The PT boys captured the JV title with a 404 total. SF and BP followed in second and third places.

Brendan Kern and Jeremy Poon tied BP’s Mason Devet-Raeder for medalist honors. All shot 79s

PT’s Ryan Watterson and Bryce Sobehart followed in fourth and fifth places while Luke Scott was seventh.

WPIAL notes

The WPIAL announced sites for its championships this fall.

The boys and girls team finals will be held Oct. 13 at Cedarbrook Country Club.

The Class AAA individual boys championships will be played Oct. 6 at the Allegheny Country Club. The girls finals are set for Oct. 3 at Valley Brook Country Club.
