Bethel Park wins wrestling tournament

Bethel Park won the team championship at the 2022 Eastern Area Invitational Westling Tournament. The Black Hawks finished first out of 15 teams.

Several wrestlers reached the podium and took home hardware.

Mason Kernan won the 133-pound weight class.

Ethan Higgins (139), Dhyea Danyan (152) and Landon Hartman (215) earned runner-up honors.

Bronze medalists included: Aiden Bench (121), Ryan Walsh (172) and Hunter Goelz (189).

Jaden Palombine finished fourth at 114 while Rocco DelGreco was fifth at 145.

Jonah Stearman (107) and Aden Stout (127) secured sixth-place honors while Jake Brown topped out in eighth place at heavyweight. AJ Tomaino had a Top 10 finish at 160.

Dunlap wins

Luke Dunlap of South Fayette edged Rook Smith, 2-1, to win the 145-pound championship during the Charters-Houston Invitational. It was the second straight title for the sophomore.

“This one was more satisfying,” said Dunlap. “I had to fight harder for this one. I used my skills more, top and bottom.”

Thanks to third-place finishes by Brock Dennision (107) and Jonny Baiano (121), the Lions finished ninth out of 32 teams in the tournament, racking up 106 points.

Butler won the team tournament with 180.5 points. Burgettstown was second with 169.5 points followed by General McLane (155), Pine-Richland (148) and Bentworth (133.5).

Peters Township took sixth place in the team standings with 131 points and three finalists. John Radnor (127), Darius McMillon (133) and Chris Cibrone (152) garnered runner-up honors.

Chartiers Valley had two place winners in Dylan Evans (first at 160) and Brady Joling (second at 121).

Upper St. Clair’s Ty Shields reached the podium. He finished fourth at 215.
