Upper St. Clair diver finishes fifth in WPIAL

Addison Burnette of Upper St. Clair finished fifth during the WPIAL Class 3A Diving Championships held Feb. 26 at North Allegheny High School.

A junior, Burnette scored 372.85 points to medal and also made the cut for the PIAA finals set for March 16-19 at Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University.

North Allegheny junior Christina Shi won the title with a 481.45 score. She became the sixth three-time 1-meter diving champion at the Class 3A level in WPIAL history. She joined, among others, Maria Lohman from Chartiers Valley, who won the crown from 2012-15.

Latrobe’s Hannah Polosky earned runner-up honors behind Shi with a 430.45 score. Ashley Felitsky from Seneca Valley was the bronze medalist (405.80). NA freshman Lola Malarky finished fourth (379.05) ahead of Burnette.

Will Schenk won the boys Class AAA division allowing NA to sweep the competition, a feat last accomplished by Pine-Richland in 2012. Schenk posted a 4.28.66 score.

Seneca Valley secured the next four slots on the podium.

Bethel Park’s Dylan McCabe (316.90) and Mt. Lebanon’s Malcolm Thompson (268.30) rounded out the Top 10, grabbing eighth and 10th places.

Other area competitors included: Liam Smith of Mt. Lebanon (13th), Ethan Yeaman from South Fayette (14th) and BP’s Jake Zeminski (15th). All are juniors.

The WPIAL held its swimming championships March 3-4 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Trees Pool.
