South Hills basketball teams pick up non-section wins
At the mid-point of the boys basketball season, local teams took a break from section action, but did not take a hiatus from winning.
Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park both took their turns against Trinity.
While the Blue Devils thumped the Hillers, 72-43, BP defeated them, 44-36.
Christian Powers led Lebo with 21 points. Christian Mallon and Lucas Garafoli each supplied 15 points for the Blue Devils.
Ben Guffey scored 20 points and Jaden Goodman added 10 to lead the Black Hawks over the Hillers.
Lebo also defeated Hempfield, 64-33, to improve to 9-6 overall. Garofoli scored a team-high 15 points, while Powers scored 13, and Joey Peters and Zach D’Alesandro added 10 each.
The Hawks also picked up an 80-56 win against Ringgold.
Max Blanc supplied 12 points while Goodman, Anthony Watson and Guffey each tossed in 10.
Chartiers Valley continues to improve. The Colts chalked up their sixth victory in eight games following an 0-7 start when they dispatched Baldwin, 64-58, in a non-section clash.
Jayden Davis exploded for 33 points, while Drew Sleva followed with 12.
The Colts also defeated Trinity, 78-56. Joey Zajicek scored a team-high 20 points, while Sleva scored 17, Davis poured in 16 and Patrick Mulligan added 13.
South Fayette dispatched Thomas Jefferson, 62-54, and Aliquippa, 54-46.
In the overtime win against the Quips, Brandon Jakiela scored 16 points and Landon Lutz tossed in 10 for the Lions.
Jakiela and Alex Hall each scored 13 points against TJ while Logan Yater led with 16.
Peters Township dropped a 64-54 decision to Central Catholic in non-section action.
Gavin Cote fired in 22 points for the Indians in the loss.
