Bethel Park's Mason Kernan closes in on a pin during action against Peters Township. Kernan had one of four falls for the Black Hawks as they edged the Indians, 33-30, for third-place in Section 3-AAA. Both teams have qualified for the WPIAL team tournament.

The Bethel Park wrestling team exacted some revenge on neighboring rival Peters Township with a 33-30 victory over the host Indians during the Section 4-B wrestling tournament held Jan. 26 at the AHN Arena in McMurray.

The victory clinched third place for the Black Hawks and assured them a spot in the WPIAL Class AAA team tournament. Just one week earlier, Peters Township knocked off Bethel Park, 32-23.

Bethel Park will travel to North Allegheny to battle the No. 5 Tigers in a first-round bout scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 2 while PT will travel to Connellsville to battle the No. 2 Falcons.

Waynesburg, which won the Section 4-AAA title with a win over Canon-McMillan, 31-24, earned the top seed followed by Latrobe, Connellsville and Canon-McMillan. The Red Raiders are two-time WPIAL winners and defending PIAA champions. Peters Township will also host the WPIAL semifinals, championship and consolation matches on Feb. 5. Action commences with semifinal bouts at noon.

Bethel Park last won a district team title in 2009. The Black Hawks are the last Allegheny County club to win a WPIAL crown.
