Ephrata used a seven-run fourth inning to defeat Peters Township in a first-round PIAA Class 5A baseball game played on June 6 at War Memorial Field.

The Indians had forged a 4-0 lead before the Mounts rallied on a two-out, two-run homer by Coy Schwinger in the third inning. The seven-run fourth followed.

Highlights in that stanza for the Mounts were two-run singles by Drew Hurst and Dawson Shelley. In the frame, PT committed two errors.

In the sixth, the Indians produced three runs on five hits.

Nick Sampson had a run-scoring single and Jack Kail smacked a two-run double that trimmed PT’s deficit to 9-7. On the play though, the Mounts threw out the potential tying run at home plate.

PT constructed a 4-0 lead when Drew Ripepi led off the game with a home run and Sam Miller followed with a two-run, four-bagger in the third.

With the loss, the Indians ended the year at 21-3 overall. They were section champions and WPIAL runners-up.

They graduate 13 seniors, including Ivy League recruits Miller and Kail. Both are Columbia bound in the fall.

Among the other players lost to graduation are: Nick Sampson, TJ Patel, Tucker Ferris, Wes Parker, Andrew Daube, Aiden Bewick, Bryce Thompson, James Young, Ryan Morrow, Nico Melograne and Ripepi.

Among the players returning to the varsity roster next season are: juniors Dante Piacquadio, Jack Natili, Joey Bedillion, Jack Lutte, Luke Markowski and sophomores Vinny Sarcone and Will Somers.
