Former NFL standout conducting camp for linemen

High school as well as middle school football linemen will have the opportunity to learn from the best when they attend the Gino Gradkowski Offensive Line Camp set for July 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Merrick Field on the Seton LaSalle campus.

Boys entering 7th through 12th grade in the fall are eligible.

Fee is $40 ($60 after July 4) per camper.

Gradkowski is the headliner.

A SLS product, he continued his career at West Virginia University before transferring to the University of Delaware. As a Blue Hen, he parlayed his skills into a NFL career.

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Gradkowski in the fourth round. He was the 98th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and a Super Bowl champion that season. He was a backup lineman and a special teams performer as the Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII.

A seven-year NFL veteran, Gradkowski also played for the Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets.

Jim Sweeney will be a featured guest at the camp.

Sweeney played on SLS’s WPIAL championship clubs in 1979 before graduating in the spring of 1980. He then excelled at the University of Pittsburgh.

The New York Jets selected Sweeney in the second round of the NFL draft. He went on to play 16 seasons for in the NFL, including his final four years with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sweeney then joined the coaching ranks. He served as an O-line coach at Duquesne University as well as at Peters Township and South Fayette High Schools before joining Greg Gattuso’s staff at the University of Albany.

Hoop campsSeton-La Salle will host boys and girls youth basketball camps in July.

Boys in grades 5 through 8 meet from 9 a.m. to noon July 11-15.

Fee is $110.

Soccer camp

Additionally, a boys and girls soccer camp will be held from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Aug. 3-5.

Grades 5 through 8 are eligible. Fee is $50 per student.
