Two advance to states

Two area boys advanced to the PIAA golf championships to be held Oct. 17-18 at Penn State.

Colton Lusk from Peters Township and Neil Joon of Upper St. Clair were among the Top 14 to advance out of the WPIAL.

In the final round played on the 6,469-yard, par-70 course at Allegheny Country Club, Lusk carded a 75 while Joon scored a 79.

A sophomore, Lusk carried over a 79 from the first round played at Champions Lake in Bolivar to finish with a two-round score of 154 to tie for eighth place overall.

A junior, Joon had shot an 80 in the first round and finished with a two-round total of 159. He tied for 13th place to make the cut.

Rocco Salvatti won the Class AAA individual championship. The Central Catholic senior and Canonsburg native shot a 2-under 68 in the final round. With his first-round par of 71, Salvatti finished with a 139 total.

PT’s Nick Wetzel, Austin Malley and Ben Miller as well as USC’s Connor McKenzie and Mt. Lebanon’s Callan Wilcox all competed in the finals but none made the state-cut.
