Bethel Park visits South Fayette this week in football
Bethel Park visits South Fayette at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 in a key Allegheny Six Conference football game.
The Hawks enter the game in first place and ranked No. 5 in Class 5A of the WPIAL after upsetting Upper St. Clair, 27-14. (See related story.)
The Lions meanwhile are coming off a 20-6 non-conference triumph against Plum.
Nate Deanes rushed for all three scores as SF rolled up 302 yards of offense. Tyler Nicholson tacked on the extra points. Nico Lamonde threw for 103 yards by completing 8 of 12 passes.
In other Allegheny Six action on Oct. 21, Upper St. Clair will visit Moon.
Despite giving up 27 points to the Black Hawks, the Panthers still boast one of the top defenses in the WPIAL, allowing 11.6 points per game. Seamus Moorhead leads the unit with 30.5 tackles followed by Van Hellman and Ivory Travers. Both have 23 tackles while Helmann has 1.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss. Travers has 5.5 TFL.
Aidan Besselman, Mark Banbury and Nathaniel Stohl also are among the TFL leaders. Besselman leads the defense with three picks while Jacob Hufnagel, Ty Lagoni and Tim Speer each have two interceptions.
The USC offense is led by Jamaal Brown’s 722 yards rushing and five TDs.
Quarterback Julian Dahlem, who has 257 yards rushing and three scores, has completed 49 of 76 passes for 783 yards and 14 touchdowns. Besselman (24 for 489 yards, 8 TDs), Hufnagel (10 for 151, 2 TDs0 and Cody Mann (9 for 147, 3 TDs) are Dahlem’s top targets.
After battling each other on Oct. 14, Mt. Lebanon and Peters Township again engage in non-conference contests on Oct. 21. The Blue Devils host Baldwin while the Indians travel to Canonsburg to take on Canon-McMillan. Both games kick off at 7 p.m.
Lebo slipped to 1-2 in the Tri-County Five Conference and 2-5 overall after a 20-6 loss to North Allegheny, which is the top-ranked Class 6A club in the WPIAL.
Limited to 94 yards of offense, Lebo did find the end zone in the second quarter when Mike Beiersdorf hauled in a 31-yard scoring strike from Alex Gevaudan.
Meanwhile, PT thrashed Moon, 48-8, in previous Allegheny Six Conference action.
Chris Cibrone completed 7 of 12 aerials for 149 yards and two touchdowns to Thomas Aspinall and Nate Miller.
Brendan McCullough was Citroen’s top target, pulling in four passes for 66 yards. McCullough also scored a touchdown on a 51-yard punt return.
PT scored three times on the ground. Richie Woods (3 yards), Vinny Sarcone (7) and Logan King (13) tacked on the tallies.
Joe Bedillion handled the extra points.
In Class 4A, Chartiers Valley picked up its first win of the season when the Colts dispatched New Castle, 22-13.
CV has a tall task this week as the Colts host Aliquippa at 7 p.m. Oct. 21.
The Quips are the top-ranked team in the WPIAL as well as the state. They are defending district and state champions.
