Area golfers place in PIAA

The Peters Township girls’ golf team earned PIAA runner-up honors in Class AAA. Brooke Vowcheck (79), Ellie Benson (81) and Sophia Severns (82) led the Lady Indians, who finished two strokes off the winning pace set by Phoenixville, 240-242. Amelia Severns and Gabby Catalogna also competed in the championship match played Oct. 19 at Penn State.

Ellie Benson of Peters Township watches her tee shot during WPIAL Class AAA team championship action. After helping the Indians to the team title, Benson finished tied for fourth in the PIAA individual championships held Oct. 17-18 at Penn State.

Colton Lusk from Peters Township tied for 10th place during the PIAA Class AAA boys individual golf championships played Oct. 17-18 on the Penn State Blue and White Course.

Lusk carded a 74-75-149 during the event.

Rocco Salvitti from Canonsburg finished as the runner-up, one stroke off the winning pace set by Dylan Ramsey from Cedar Crest. A Central Catholic senior, Salvitti shot 70 in the first round and 71 in the second round for a 141 total. Ramsey had fired a 67 in the first round to give him enough cushion to win with a 140 total.

Neil Joon from Upper St. Clair finished in the top 20. He finished tied for 19th position with a 73-77-150.

In the Class AAA girls competition, Marissa Malosh from South Fayette and Ellie Benson from Peters Township both finished with 149 scores, carding 76s during the first round and 73s in the second round to finish tied for fourth place.

Sydney Yermish of Lower Merion won the title with a 139, three strokes ahead of runner-up Kayley Roberts from Phoenixville.

In the team competition, the Peters Township girls earned PIAA runner-up honors in Class AAA. The Lady Indians, who were the WPIAL champions, finished two strokes off the winning pace set by Phoenixville, 240-242.

Brook Vowcheck led the Lady Indians with a round of 79 that included an eagle on the 397-yard par-5 No. 6 hole.

Ellie Benson followed with an 81 and Sophia Severns shot 82.

Amelia Severns and Gabby Catalogna also competed in the championship match played Oct. 19 at Penn State.
