Bethel Park prepared for conference opener against Baldwin

After three consecutive contests against opponents in a higher classification, Bethel Park is prepared to open Allegheny Six Conference action. The Black Hawks visit Baldwin at 7 p.m. Friday.
“These last games against bigger schools were great preparation for conference play,” said BP coach Brian DeLallo.
After upending Mt. Lebanon in overtime, 27-24, the Hawks dropped a heartbreaker against No. 1-ranked Central Catholic, 31-22, before they faced Canon-McMillan, which proved a playoff contender in Class 6A with a thrilling win against Seneca Valley, 33-21.
In the loss to the Vikings, big plays led to BP’s demise.
Bradley Gompers returned an interception for 45 yards while Jayden Thrift and Gavin Stank pulled in 63- and 48-yard scoring strikes from quarterback Payton Wehner.
For the Hawks, Tanner Pfeuffer rushed for a pair of 1-yard touchdowns and tossed a 73-yard scoring aerial to Dinari Clacks. A sophomore, Pfeuffer completed 21 of 31 passes for 271 yards.
Austin Caye had four receptions in the game and provided two points on a conversion while sophomore receiver Ryan Petras hauled in eight passes for 89 yards.
The Hawks also held the advantage in rushing, 356-311, but big plays, turnovers and penalties were “killers” as DeLallo noted that high school football is about those three elements.
While the Highlanders were dropping a 53-14 decision to Upper St. Clair, Mt. Lebanon, which played Central Catholic in its conference opener last week (Sept. 16), picked up its first win of the campaign when the Blue Devils defeated Moon, 40-9.
Michael Beiersdorf had an all-around spectacular game. He caught a 6-yard scoring strike from David Shields, returned a fumble for a 19-yard score and added a 32-yard Pick-6.
Shields also tossed a pair of TD aerials of 12 and 5 yards to J.P. Walters while Ben McAuley kicked field goals of 36 and 24 yards to go along with four extra points.
The Blue Devils will host Seneca Valley at 7 p.m. Sept. 23.
Other action on tap for Friday has South Fayette hosting Canon-McMillan and Chartiers Valley entertaining Blackhawk. Both games have 7 p.m. kickoffs.
The Lions are coming off a thrilling win against Montour, 20-19. Nico Lamonde completed 12 of 18 passes for 122 yards and a 44-yard TD strike to Dom Monz.
Monz had seven receptions for 73 yards while Wesmyn Wright had four grabs for 49 yards.
Nate Deanes rushed for a 16-yard score while Tyler Nicholson kicked three extra points as well as field goals measuring 28 and 40 yards.
Despite a 28-20 loss to Highlands, Gavin Owens excelled for the Colts. He completed 11 of 18 passes for 279 yards. He tossed 94-yard TD bombs to Austin Efthimiades and Lamont Payne. Efthimiades also rushed for a 3-yard score.
